You Really Need to Be Following the Star Wars Instagram

Matt Martin, manager of Digital Content and Community Relations at Lucasfilm, heads up a lot of the great things happening in the .com Star Wars universe. He helps curate the feed and is privy to a “killer archive” of behind-the-scenes content. "I love the history behind the making of the films so having to pore through all of those old images is actually a lot of fun," he says. "I get to learn things I didn’t already know or relearn things I may have forgotten."

One of Martin's favorite discoveries includes a photo of the first ILM Halloween party (an event that still happens today) featuring concept designer Joe Johnston in a DIY Darth Vader costume a year before A New Hope was released. Martin also learned more miniature models were created for just one of the prequel films than for the entire original trilogy. "I'd previously assumed [they] were created digitally," he says.

From Han Solo's gun to seeing how big the Death Star really was — hint, a lot smaller than you’d imagine — it’s high time to join Vader and everyone else on Instagram. When asked whether there may be sneak peaks of the upcoming film in the next few months, Martin is cryptic. "Always in motion is the future … of the @StarWars Instagram," he says.
