So, the summer has melted away quickly and now it's time for me to make my (nearly) annual pilgrimage to the SHRIMP-RG lab at Stanford University. I have two students working with me this summer and they will be blasting zircon from the Lassen Volcanic Center, along with some from a couple new locations along the Cascades. Now, this (along with the pesky task of moving houses here in Granville) means that I might not have a chance to post much for until after August 12, depending on how busy things are in the lab.
However, there are a couple of cool things that will be happening over the next week. First, I'll be giving a talk about my Lassen work at the USGS Volcanic Science Center in Menlo Park on August 5 at 11 am (Pacific) ... and what's doubly cool is that it will be streamed live on the interweb. Check out the Menlo Park stream next Tuesday at the appointed time and you can hear me talk all about what the zircon from the Lassen Volcanic Center are telling us about its inner workings.
I will also be the curator next week for the @realscientists Twitter account, meaning that not only can you hear me talk about volcanoes and geology at my usual account (@eruptionsblog), but I'll be talking specifically about my life as a scientist, the work we're doing at the SHRIMP-RG lab, undergraduate science research and much more. So, if you don't follow @realscientists, next week (starting 8/3) might be a great time to start.
