There's a Whole Lotta Throwback in This Weekend's Playlist

From vintage-sounding dancehall to straight-up spirituals, there's a real time-machine feeling going on this week.

We know it's 2014, but this week's best new music makes us feel like we hopped into a certain Delorean and hit "random." Afghan Whigs drop their first album in almost 16 years; Mr. Vegas (yes, the Mr. Vegas who sang 1999's inescapable "Heads High") hearkens back to early-’80s dancehall with a crucial new tune; young Florida rapper/singer Eric Biddines made a video for the truly haunting antebellum-sounding "Railroads Down;" and Pharrell name-checks Eek-a-Mouse and Sinatra on a Major Lazer track! Chronodisplacement is a hell of a thing, but we're not complaining.

As usual, we've added the tracks to our ongoing Spotify playlist of great new music, and created a standalone YouTube playlist for this week. Keep the recommendations coming.

The tracks:
Lykke Li, "Gunshot"
Afghan Whigs, "Algiers"
Gold Bears, "For You"
Young Fathers, "Get Up"
Eric Biddines, "Railroads Down/Unfinished"
Mr. Vegas, "Real Don"
Childish Gambino, "Sweatpants"
Ikebe Shakedown, "The Offering"
