Putting an exact date on when all Star Wars fans must now focus their attention, Lucasfilm announced today that Episode VII will hit theaters Dec. 18, 2015.

"It will not only anchor the popular holiday film-going season but also ensure our extraordinary filmmaking team has the time needed to deliver a sensational picture," Walt Disney Studios chairman Alan Horn said in a statement on StarWars.com announcing the release date.

The announcement comes just two weeks after the studio revealed that the flick's director J.J. Abrams and Empire Strikes Back scribe Lawrence Kasdan would be taking over writing duties on the film from Episode VII's original writer Michael Arndt, who wrote this month's The Hunger Games: Catching Fire screenplay adaptation.

Legendary composer John Williams will be returning to score Episode VII, and filming for the latest installment of the franchise is set to begin in the spring of 2014.
