Improv Everywhere hosts a video series on YouTube called Movies in Real Life, in which New York City improv groups bring classic films like Star Wars, Lord of the Rings and The Matrix to life amidst the daily goings-on of the Big Apple. They've put Gandalf in Central Park, the DeLorean and Doc Brown in the Flatiron, and Storm Troopers in the subway.
They've been doing them since at least 2010, but this fall they'll be releasing a new installment every week. Earlier this month they recreated Jurassic Park in Manhattan and Prospect Park, and before that they recreated the orgasm scene from When Harry Met Sally at Katz's Delicatessen in the Lower East Side. Now, they've put a tiny Harry Potter doppelgänger in Penn Station, and instructed him to ask around for Platform 9¾. The result: nothing short of magical.
Though his British accent is suspect (as is his confusion about using "wizard currency" in lieu of real-world dollars, because everyone knows he's pretty good with Muggle money), this Harry's performance is impressive. Look at all those big, stupid grins on the faces of in-transit millennials! That girl with the pink hair is losing her mind with happiness! Check out that masterfully knocked-off theme music! And when the information teller asks where his parents are? Bravo, kid. Great work all around, team.
