Icon is best known as a purveyor of some of the world's most awesome, outrageous, and expensive resto-mods, so it's latest project has our eyebrows raised ... and our wallets open.

It's called the E-Flyer, and it's an electric bicycle Icon-style.

It starts with hydroformed aluminum frame coated in Icon's Rocky Mountain Gray Powder Coat, along with a billet aluminum front fork and a smattering of brushed stainless steel, nickel, and brass accents.

Avid disc brakes keep things in check up front, while a Brooks saddle keeps your bottom cosseted in hand-stitched leather.

At its heart, a 3,500-watt brushless DC hub motor powers the rear wheel thanks to a 52-volt, 12.5 AH battery pack. That's enough juice to put out 750 watts of power in what Icon calls "street legal mode" for a maximum pedal-assisted speed of 20 mph. But flick a switch and you'll get 3,500 watts of juice in "race mode," good for a top speed of 35 mph – illegal in most states, hence "race." Charging takes 2 hours, and Icon claims that you can get up to 35 miles on a single charge, although 30 miles is "more realistic."

The E-Flyer looks more like a turn-of-the-century motorcycle than a bike, thanks in part to the big circular headlight and curved handlebars. And that's exactly what Icon was going for, saying it evokes "the classical elegance of the board racers that so effortlessly tackled the grand oval motordromes of the World War I era."

The only downsides are weight and cost. The E-Flyer comes in at 57 pounds and commands $4,995. But with only 50 E-Flyers being produced – and Icon's reputation – there's no doubt the e-bike will sell out in no time.
