Turns out you don't have to rule the Seven Kingdoms to sit on the Iron Throne. You just need a plastic Adirondack chair and a free afternoon.
Over at Instructables, user Scott Sedam has a how-to guide for building a replica of the throne from HBO's Game of Thrones out of a deck chair, some insulation, yardsticks, boards, and a few other things available at Home Depot.
"Our main requirements were having a throne of respectable size and enough heft and durability to handle party guests (some in chain mail) posing on it throughout the evening," Sedam wrote in the post accompanying the instructions. "It's not, by any means, a sword by sword replica of the one on HBO, but it was a real hit. It's made of common materials and just takes time to put together. That sure beats spending 30 grand for an official copy!"
But hey, even Littlefinger himself has noted (in the HBO version) that the Iron Throne probably doesn't contain the thousand swords of legend, and considering the long lines that emerge when HBO brings the Iron Throne to events and cons, this isn't a bad substitute. So go ahead and get your Aegon on now. Yours might even be comfortable to sit in. Though whether or not it would please George R.R. Martin is another story.
