Google Needs to Make Maps for Motorcyclists

Google Maps caters to everyone: drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and public transit aficionados. But motorcyclists? Not so much.

Google Maps caters to everyone: drivers, bicyclists, pedestrians, and public transit aficionados. But motorcyclists? Not so much. Specifically, for California riders that are allowed to split lanes, the estimated arrival time is completely erroneous. So here's what we think Google should provide as an alternative to the different modes of transportation in its Maps app for iOS and Android.

Toggle a preference in the setting pane and the Driving, Public Transit, Biking, and Pedestrian options are swapped in favor of four riding styles.

The first is Beginner, which assumes no lane splitting and a conservative pace. The second is Intermediate and accounts for some lane splitting and a moderate pace. Advanced assumes the rider is splitting lanes when traffic is crawling or at a stand still, while the Squid setting figures the rider has a death wish and doesn't account for a detour to the hospital.

Naturally, this would only work in California until the rest of the U.S. gets smart and adopts the same lane splitting standards, but in the meantime: Get on it Google.
