The feature-laden Moto X is the darling of the Android world save for one tiny issue. The photos shot with the camera look like crap. Today's over-the-air update for AT&T users fixed that.
In a scientific-ish test, we took photos of the latest issue of WIRED against various backgrounds and in different lighting scenarios. Overall, the photos post update had more color pop and were sharper. In the above photo, details in the grill were more pronounced after the update. Both photos were shot at an f/2.4. The image on the left was shot at an ISO of 200 while the image on the right was shot at an ISO of 160. The higher ISO of the first image could account for some additional grain, but definitely not the levels seen between the two photos.
If you have an AT&T Moto X, this update will definitely make your photos look better. You'll get richer colors with darker blacks and a lot less grain. (Sprint and T-Mobile Moto X users received the update late last month.)
