If you pine after a more organic computing experience, Oreé has a trackpad you.
With the Touch Slab, you can swipe to your heart's content on a smooth wooden surface. The Slab is about the size of Apple's Magic Trackpad, and like Apple's trackpad, it connects to your Windows or Mac computer via Bluetooth. It comes in two different woods, Maple and Walnut, and according to the company's FAQ, it can sense any gesture that Apple's trackpad can.
Each trackpad is made from a single piece of wood, which is hollowed out, filled with a capacitive sensor and circuit board, then sealed with a thin layer of the same wood. While mass-produced trackpads don't always age with grace, hopefully Oreé's wooden trackpad will develop a rich patina from your finger's oils soaking in on a daily basis.
Get ready to pay for that personalization though. The Oreé Trackpad will ship on October 21st, and preorders are currently available for 150 Euro, or about $200.
