Get a Perfect Serving of Pasta Every Time With This Beautiful Tool

“Type” is a typographic spaghetti meter that handles the guesswork for you.

Among man’s greatest challenges is accurately estimating a serving of spaghetti. Seriously, it’s nearly impossible to get it right—eyeballing it either leaves you with way too much or far too little. The designers at Florence, Italy-based Studio Lievito are no stranger to this problem, and lucky for us, have created their newest product to help us solve it.

“Type” is a typographic spaghetti meter that handles the guesswork for you. Carved from a slab of Carrara marble, the kitchen tool accurately measures a serving of dry pasta for up to four people. “We really like the idea of portioning raw materials and analyzing the steps to find out if there have been waste from the kitchen industry, from agriculture or politics,” the designers told Wired.

Though spaghetti meters are nothing new, Studio Lievito’s dedication to high-quality craftsmanship makes the tool as beautiful as it is useful. Currently, an artisan in Carrara, Italy mills and polishes each piece of marble into its letter-like shape. “We wanted to create an useful, simple and at the same time iconic and statuesque tool to be exposed,” the design team said. “We think that home is our museum and the objects belonging to it are our works of art.”

Type is part of Studio Lievito’s “Spaghetti Rouge” collection, which also includes a dish for sopping up extra pasta sauce and mouth-blown glass containers for various types of pasta. You can't buy these goods quite yet, but be sure to check out Studio Lievto’s site because they should be available soon.
