Birthdays call for celebrations. And when you hit 100 years, you deserve something special. That’s exactly what Aston Martin created to commemorate its centenary with the CC100 Speedster.

While Lamborghini is celebrating 50 years, the Italian marque is just entering middle age compared to Aston. And unlike Lamborghini’s aversion to motorsport, the Aston crew has a long history of wheel-to-wheel action.

That was the inspiration for the CC100 Speedster, which was unveiled this weekend at the 24 Hours of Nürburgring race in Germany.

With Aston’s tried, true and wailing 6.0-liter V12 mounted up front, power is sent to the rear wheels through the company’s automated manual gearbox. Aston claims the carbon fiber-tubbed CC100 is good for a 0-60 MPH time of four seconds and a top speed of 180 MPH. Just bring a helmet. And a squeegee to scrub off the sacrificial bugs you liquidize at V-max.

Aston’s CEO Dr. Ulrich Bez took the wheel of the CC100 at the ‘Ring this weekend, with none other than Sir Stirling Moss driving the roofless coupe’s predecessor – the domineering 1959 DBR1 racer – along side. The car took home the gold at both the Nürburgring and LeMans in ’59 and served as the inspiration for Aston’s 100-year birthday gift.

If this is feeling slightly familiar, you wouldn’t be mistaken. Mercedes-Benz did something similar to celebrate its topless 1955 Mercedes SLR when it created the McLaren SLR Stirling Moss edition in 2009. But we’re hardly calling Aston out for plagiarism. Well, maybe a little bit…

Regardless, Aston says that certain aspects for the CC100’s design will be making their way to future models, but its mum on whether the speedster will be available for sale. But as with all things exotic, if you’ve got the cash and the motivation, we’re sure Aston would be happy to part with a few examples for the right price.
