The Internet is a big place. Awesome videos pop up way faster than I can analyze them. So, here is a post with some great videos that you could use for your own video analysis homework.

Man Jumps Over a Car

Pretty cool, isn't it? Here are some questions.

  • What is the minimum speed the car can go to pass under the person?
  • You will need to either look up that model of car or estimate it's dimensions. In particular you will need the length and the height.
  • Hint: How high does a person's center of mass need to get to be clear of the car? What body position would this be in?

Here is another video of the car from a different angle. Can you use video analysis (I suggest Tracker Video Analysis). Yes, the video is a little shakey and you would need to use perspective corrections. Whoever said video analysis was easy?

Slow Motion Bridge Explosion

The title says this is a bridge across the Colorado River in Marble Falls, Tx.

  • The video is not in real time (I assume that is obvious). There are two things you could try to find. You could either guess or estimate the scale of the bridge or you could estimate the frame rate. I suggest searching for the length of this bridge (you can probably find it on Google Maps) and using that the scale the video.
  • This leads to the first question. What is the frame rate of the video? Hint: use the falling pieces of bridge to find this frame rate.
  • How fast does that explosion travel across the bridge?
  • How close to the right end of the bridge could you stand and still run to the end of the bridge before the explosion got to you?

That's it for now. Remember, if you wait too long to submit this homework, I might do it for you.
