Get ready to run for your life – on purpose. The Zombie Run will kick off a 16-city tour on April 7, 2013, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The Zombie Run is designed to get your feet (and heart) racing over a 3.1-mile course, as helicopters, zombies, and carnage all close in. You won't need to prep for the apocalypse, although a few stretches may help. And if you're feeling a little sluggish, the Zombie Run's organizers say that runners can opt to do the race as one of the undead.
The idea for the Zombie Run came from the non-eaten brains of childhood friends Andrew Hudis and David Feinman.
"Three years ago, I told David that I always run fastest when I'm being chased," says Hudis. "We joked that we should start a race where actors chase the runners to the finish line. Eventually, we realized that our idea could actually be a fun race."
It's not exactly an original concept, considering there are zombie-themed runs all over the world. However, the Zombie Run does set itself apart by offering on-site make-up artists and a fully scripted, suspense-filled backstory. Runners will also be racing for a cause (besides zombie love), as the Zombie Run will benefit Active Heroes, a volunteer-led charity that helps veterans, active duty military and their families. The organization also plans to donate a portion of the proceeds to select local charities in each race location.
Think you have what it takes to survive? The 2013 Zombie Run kicks off in Philadelphia on April 7, 2013. From there, the Zombie Run will spread to the streets of Chicago, New York, Miami, New Orleans, Seattle, Denver, Indianapolis, St. Louis, and many other U.S. cities. Check out the full schedule and registration info on the Zombie Run website.
If you can't make it to the Zombie Run, but still love the chase, there are plenty of other themed runs around the world. Check out Run For Your Lives, Zombie Escape, The Zombie Mud Run, and Zombie Run UK for just a few of the zombie-themed race dates already announced for 2013.
