If you're a fan of the X-Men movies, you probably already know that Sir Ian McKellen (Magneto) and Patrick Stewart (Professor Charles Xavier) are pretty chummy in real life, but this latest news about the two pals is just too precious.
McKellen is going to officiate Patrick Stewart's wedding.
During an appearance on the British talk program The Jonathan Ross Show last weekend McKellen, who is openly gay, was asked about his friend and their work together on the upcoming X-Men: Days of Future Past (see video above) when he dropped the awesome bomb.
"I'm going to marry Patrick," he said before pausing and realizing that could be taken out of context. "How else do you put that? I'm going to officiate at his wedding."
McKellen offered no explanation when asked how he would legally be able to marry Stewart and his fiancée singer Sunny Ozell – maybe when you're knighted you can just, like, do whatever? – but he did say it won't be the first time he's officiated a union; he oversaw a civil partnership for two men in the UK.
"I was crying my eyes out," he told Ross. McKellen also noted that for the civil partnership he wore "a gown… something I bought in India that was rather fetching" but didn't say what he might wear for Stewart's nuptials.
"Well, I'm sure it'll be on Google, you'll find it somewhere," McKellen joked.
Check out the whole interview above, where you can also catch McKellen flirting with *Doctor Who'*s Matt Smith. "He's not got a girlfriend, and you know…"
X-Men: Days of Future Past, which stars pretty much everyone, hits theaters July 18, 2014.
