Facebook just can't stop copying Twitter. At least this week.

First, it was reported that Facebook will support hashtags, and now, it's promoting its senior vice president of engineering, Mike Schroepfer, to the vacant CTO role -- aping Twitter's own management shuffle.

The announcement was made via an e-mail inside the company, according to TechCrunch.

While Twitter's CTO role had been empty since 2011, Facebook's has had two "interim CTOs" -- Cory Ondrejka and Mike Vernal -- since Bret Taylor left the company last summer. It's not clear what will happen to Ondrejka and Vernal.

Before joining Facebook, Schroepfer was the vice president of engineering of Mozilla, the non-profit responsible for developing the Firefox web browser and other open source projects. And before that, he was CTO of Sun Microsystems' data center automation division.

Schroepfer's agenda will likely include improving the company's mobile experience and finding more ways to mine user data for advertising gold.

Update: This story had been updated to show that reports indicated that Facebook would embrace hashtags. The company did not announce this.
