Have you ever been reading an epic science fiction space saga and wished you could be out there on the high frontier, mining asteroids for the material to build the next phase of human civilizations? Well, now you can start making that dream come true, thanks to space start-up Planetary Resources.
Last April the company revealed itself to the world after three years of covert research and development. Though it may sound far-fetched to go out wrangling space rocks, co-founders Eric Anderson and Peter Diamandis bring credibility from their previous successes at the X PRIZE Foundation, the International Space University, Space Adventures, and the Zero Gravity Corporation. Add to that team a couple of former NASA engineers with experience developing Mars rovers, advisors including director James Cameron, and investments from the Google guys. This crazy idea just might work.
Planetary Resources’s CEO, Chris Lewicki, recently put up a blog post to help would-be asteroid miners join their team (professionals, college students, and even your starry-eyed kids!). The first criteria are pretty simple:
Did you pass the first test? If so, get ready for some inspired inquiries that will require brains and a fun personality.
Examples from their career page include:
Are your soldering skills are best described as Cro-Magnon, Offensive, Survivable, Clean and Functional, Mil-spec compliant, or Angelic (cue choir sounds)?
What name would you give a crash test dummy, and why?
Do you know how to create an interplanetary spacecraft trajectory to a celestial target?
If you are already sure you want to join the team, head over to their application page now.
