Director Bryan Singer loves us (he really loves us!) and to prove it, he chose Valentine's Day to announce Peter Dinklage has been cast in X-Men: Days of Future Past. OK, that might not be why he announced it now -- in fact, the word came down on Wednesday -- but who cares? Tyrion Lannister is coming to the world of the X-Men.

"Officially like to welcome #PeterDinklage from #GameOfThrones to #XMEN #DaysofFuturePast," the director of the upcoming flick wrote on Twitter. "Very very excited!"

The director, who is about to release Jack the Giant Slayer on March 1, didn't elaborate on what character Dinklage will be playing – despite everyone on Twitter asking him – but fan speculation immediately pointed to Puck as a possible role for the Game of Thrones star. In the Marvel comic books, Puck is a member of the Canadian Alpha Flight team who has both acrobatic skills and a smaller-than-average stature due to an encounter with a sorcerer that transformed his body and diminished his height. Although not a member of the X-Men, Puck joins up with the mutant team from time to time.

It wouldn't be a surprise at this point if Singer brought in a character like Puck, and now that the X-Men and X2 director has the reins to the mutant superteam once again, he's clearly looking to shake things up, or as he says, "correct a few things."

"This movie's gonna be not only quite epic, Days of Future Past, but it also takes place in completely different times than the X-Men movies have taken place," Singer told Hitfix recently, hinting that all kinds of new characters and stories will be in the mix this time around.

Dinklage's casting marks the latest addition to a massive roster for Days of Future Past that includes not only First Class cast-members like Jennifer Lawrence (Mystique), James McAvoy (Charles Xavier), Michael Fassbender (Magneto), and Nicholas Hoult (Beast), but also actors from earlier X-Men movies including Patrick Stewart (older Charles Xavier), Ian McKellen (older Magneto), Hugh Jackman (Wolverine), Anna Paquin (Rogue), and Ellen Page (Kitty Pryde).

In other words, this movie already sounded awesome, and it just got a little more awesome-er. X-Men: Days of Future Past is scheduled to hit theaters July 18, 2014.
