Vocalist Peter Hollens, who has been featured in this space several times before with his cover of "The Dragonborn Comes" from Skyrim and the Game of Thrones "Main Title" returns once again to the word of fantasy with his latest fan favorite requested song. This time around, he's visiting the "Misty Mountains" along with the Dwarves from The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey except he's playing the part of all the Dwarves, including their penchant for good drink.
Hollens, a high tenor, had to hit some pretty low notes to record this haunting and poetic song. That meant taking some shots of hard liquor before bed, then getting up at six in the morning to record the low bits. I'm not a singer, but that seems much better than getting punched in the throat. For Hollens, though, it was worth it (although generally, he does not imbibe at all) as it was his most requested song by his #hollensfamily, his legion of fans and supporters.
Composed of 56 vocal tracks, several shots of alcohol and disliked by his wife, "Misty Mountains" shows the pure vocal talent of Peter Hollens and I look forward to his next project. As an aside, if you follow me on Twitter then you already know my feelings on The Hobbit and I can easily say this song was better than the entire movie.
