The amazing Minecraft builders at at WesterosCraft are at it again, this time releasing spectacular new renderings of King's Landing – the capital of the Seven Kingdoms in Game of Thrones – recreated with the distinctive blocks of the popular sandbox game.
The WesterosCraft team of Will Blew and Jacob Granberry posted the images of their latest work on reddit… and nearly brought their whole house down. ("Annnnnnnnnd you guys broke the server! Please be patient we're working on keeping it up :)," the creators posted in the thread showing off the latest images.
"We are extremely happy with how King's Landing turned out," Granberry said in an email to Wired. "It's kind of our crowning achievement as a server, and we hope to surpass its magnificence one day in a future build!"
Granberry and his WesterosCraft crew are slowly but surely working to build the entire universe of A Song of Ice and Fire in Minecraft and with this latest installment they estimate they're about 70 percent done with the entire continent of Westeros. The team also notes that the the latest section of George R.R. Martin's world took some 100 builders four months to complete and includes roughly 3,000 unique buildings.
"We're super stoked by the response to our most recent renders," Blew said in an email, adding, "None of this would be possible without the support of our great community and obviously the builders in our team!"
At least the hard work paid off. In a final edit to the reddit posting, "pizzainacup" (aka Granberry) responded to the online feedback to the images saying, "holy crap: is that what it feels like to be an internet celebrity?"
