Geeking Up Your Pandora Charm Bracelet

In the jewellery world, charm bracelets are the in thing right now with Pandora leading the way in the “must have name brand” stakes. Thing is for many of us geekier ladies that Pandora’s range of traditional charms just don’t quite speak to us. If you want to keep your Pandora bracelet limited to only official charms, or like me have severe metal allergies and are wary of other brands which could trigger a reaction, then here are some ideas to geek up your Pandora bracelet.

In the jewellery world, charm bracelets are the in thing right now with Pandora leading the way in the “must have name brand” stakes. Thing is for many of us geekier ladies that Pandora’s range of traditional charms just don’t quite speak to us. Sure, waving kittens, sparkly crowns, and hearts are all very lovely, but some of us would prefer a Triforce, Companion Cube, or TARDIS. There are companies out there making geeky charms that fit these bracelets (ThinkGeek have launched their own range which includes an official Companion Cube charm) but if you want to keep your Pandora bracelet limited to only official charms, or like me have severe metal allergies and are wary of other brands which could trigger a reaction, then here are some ideas to geek up your Pandora bracelet.

Firefly
What we’d love to see: Serenity herself would make for an awesome charm if the currently available airplane is anything to go by. Otherwise a dangling replica of Mal’s pistol, a brightly painted parasol or a little Jayne hat could all be fun.

What you could choose now: There’s not much out there that could work for Firefly so options are limited. My choice would be the strawberry, however if you could lay your hands on one then the discontinued 14ct gold and wood charm bears a passing resemblance to Serenity’s logo.

Doctor Who
What we’d love to see: An official TARDIS charm would probably be top of many people’s lists but an alternative could be a scroll engraved with Bad Wolf (or Hello Sweetie), a dangling Sonic Screwdriver or an adorable little K9.

What you could choose now: TARDIS blue is such a well known color that Pandora’s blue faceted murano charm would add a touch of sexy to your wrist. Other options could include an apple charm for Amy Pond fans, a dangling pair of angel wings, or a dangling Statue of Liberty – just don’t blink.

The Lord of The Rings/The Hobbit
What we’d love to see: Clearly the One Ring is going to be top priority for any Tolkien themed charm, but a dangling Evenstar or Elven leaf brooch would look stunning, as would a dragon (seriously, why isn’t there a dragon yet?).

What you could choose now: My top choice for a Hobbit themed charm would be the Viking who, it has to be said, looks far more like a dwarf than a Viking. The dangling La Sagrada church looks similar enough to much of Middle Earth architecture to be mistaken, and there are several designs of gold band spacers, however my pick for a One Ring alternative would be a two-tone ball charm.

The X-Files
What we’d love to see: A UFO would be a fairly amazing charm for me to have on my bracelet, as would be an ouroboros, but my top pick for an X-Files charm would have to be an enameled green X from the show’s logo.

What you could choose now: There are a surprising number of charms that work for the show. I personally have a simple X from the alphabet range but the caduceus charm is on my wish list to represent my lifelong role model Ms “I am a medical Doctor” Scully. There is also a ghost charm available if you’d like to something a bit more spooky adorning your wrist.

Twilight
What we’d love to see: It surprises me somewhat that Pandora never leapt on the Twilight bandwagon considering the franchise's demographic. Aa wolf and dangling crystal heart would be the natural go-to charms for Twilight, but chess pieces or a Cullen/Quileute symbol would work too.

What you could choose now: The apple charm would probably be the obvious choice for a Twilight charm but the “forever together” scroll is reminiscent of the series, and a bright red charm such as the red spacer or red faceted murano charm would inject a feel of the final films along with some color.

Harry Potter
What we’d love to see: Harry is another series with so many options for charms. I’d love to see a Golden Snitch but a miniature Hogwarts would also be a great choice, as would a dangling wand, Deathly Hallows symbol, or possibly a dark mark.

What you could choose now: An owl charm would be a great Potter choice, as would the snake. To make a really colorful bracelet you could add charms in all four house colors, or some more obscure choices could be the treasure chest/Hogwarts trunk, ghost, cat sleeping on top of what looks like a pumpkin, or the pile of textbooks engraved with an owl.

When you put your mind to it, there are many ways to create geeky bracelets using only Pandora charms, although some help from the company would still be appreciated. Other geeky charm options currently available include a camera, dice, and even a crown for Sherlock fans. If you've created a geeky charm bracelet of your own then we'd love to see it.
