Audi and Peugeot set the bar for diesel-powered racers, now Mazda is getting in on the oil-burning bandwagon with the Skyactiv Mazda6. It’s the first diesel to race in the 24 Hours of Daytona at the end of this month. The engine makes 400 hp and 445 lb-ft of torque, yet still uses the same 2.2-liter block and 65% of the production parts.

Honda showed off the EVster in Tokyo and it’s still one of our favorite Honda concepts of the past few years. Last we heard, a similar small coupe has been given the green light, likely using some variant of the hybrid drivetrain in the CR-Z. But unfortunately it may be a Japan-only affair.

Ok. Except for this. Acura has updated the NSX concept. Modified styling and a reworked interior. They’re still claiming it’s coming in two years. I’ll believe it when I drive it.

The Cadillac ELR. This is the luxurious, sporty Volt you’ve been waiting for. 35-mile all-electric range. 295 pound-feet of torque (that’s as much as an M3). CUE infotainment. After the Corvette, this is the second most important debut of the show. And it’s phenomenal in person.
