Let your old tech perform good deeds.

HopeLine from Verizon collects used phones for distribution to domestic violence agencies and organizations nationwide. Simply donate your old wireless phones and phone accessories in any condition from any provider. You can either mail them in (postage is pre-paid for you) or drop them off at a local VZW Communications Store. HopeLine not only ensures phones are recycled responsibly, but refurbishes them and loads them with minutes of free airtime to be put into the hands of those affected by domestic violence. This way they can rebuild their lives while staying in contact with friends, family, safety officials, and support agencies.

Phones collected through HopeLine that cannot be refurbished are recycled with 100 percent of the proceeds used to fund cash grants for domestic violence organizations across the country.

The program has expanded to the HopeLine mobile app which includes information about donating wireless devices, text-to-contribute tools to support domestic violence prevention, direct connections to crisis intervention, and ways to share inspirational stories with photos and videos.

So indulge. Buy that new phone, but let your old phone do some volunteer work. Learn more by visiting the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence.
