If you are looking for a little more irreverence in your Christmas celebrations this year, then I might suggest that you look no further than Christmas Exposed, a collection of Christmas articles from The Onion published by Quirk Books.
Taking articles from it’s popular Jean Teasdale column, and including such pieces as "Broke Dad Makes Son PlayStation 2 for Christmas" and "Feds Uncover Secret Santa Ring," this is sure to delight even the staunchest Scrooges across. I have a fascination with The Onion for it’s off-key and often appalling wit, and an obsession with Christmas. This book has certainly given me some new Christmas traditions to toy with this year. I might consider their suggestions of running to Missouri and back again to fight off Christmas calories, or calling the police to quiet down revelers – my son likes the flashing lights. It's a well rounded collection for the modern family!
Let's just say this book is not for those who willingly wear sweaters emblazoned with flashing lights.
If Christmas Exposed does not provide enough irreverence and dark humor for you, then take a look at the gift guides put together by the folks at Quirk. I generally add a title or two from their eclectic collection to my stocking stuffers. This year my niece will be diving into the world of Miss Peregrine's Home for Peculiar Children, my friend Dillon will be joining me in an Onion for Christmas
, and my sister in law will be getting set up to craft every day
. You can enjoy a classic piece of undead literature, or you can get your craft on while spending time with your favorite furry friend
. There are many survival guides
available too, should you need to survive parenting, the holidays or life itself.
I was provided with a copy of Christmas Exposed for this review.
