New Star Trek Into Darkness Teaser Debuts

The first teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness arrived today. Featuring a nameless villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch -- although there are theories abound about his identity -- the teaser shows us glimpses of Earth and the Enterprise crew threatened by a man looking for vengeance.

Simon Pegg let us know it was coming, and as promised, the first teaser for Star Trek Into Darkness arrived today. Featuring a nameless villain played by Benedict Cumberbatch – although there are theories abound about his identity – the teaser shows us glimpses of Earth and the Enterprise crew threatened by a man looking for vengeance.

The official synopsis of J. J. Abrams' second Star Trek movie reveals just a few tantalizing tidbits:

When the crew of the Enterprise is called back home, they find an unstoppable force of terror from within their own organization has detonated the fleet and everything it stands for, leaving our world in a state of crisis. With a personal score to settle, Captain Kirk leads a manhunt to a war-zone world to capture a one man weapon of mass destruction.

Moviegoers seeing The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey on December 14 in IMAX/3D will also have the chance to see the first nine minutes of Star Trek Into Darkness. According to the official movie web site, an additional exclusive teaser will be released on December 17.
