I had a fun visit at the New York Public Library during Thanksgiving week. While I had explored the stacks many years ago with my husband when we were newlyweds, I had never taken the time to see one of the free exhibits. They are very well done!
My mother-in-law and I took the train into New York City together on the day before Thanksgiving. I had the chance to see my first-ever Broadway play, Evita! Sadly, Ricky Martin was on vacation but it was still a fantastic show and I was so happy to see it.
After a quick lunch near the Empire State Building, we had some time to spare. As GeekMom Kathy shared earlier this year, there are so many free things to do in New York, we didn't have to break the bank looking for things to do. We took our time walking northward towards Times Square and the Marquis Theatre. We enjoyed the free holiday-decorated windows in front of Lord & Taylor, and watched ice skaters at Bryant Park. Our route happened to take us past the New York Public Library; I hadn't been inside in many many years. My mother-in-law and I ducked inside to see what was going on.
Lunch Hour NYC is a celebration and exploration of the speed and chaos of the lunch hour from the late 1800s through the modern trends in school lunches and international cuisine.
I particularly enjoyed the sections about school lunches and the diner/fast food technologies as they emerged over the years.
Lunch Hour NYC is showing at the New York Public Library's Stephen A. Schwarzman Building now through February 17, 2013. It's worth a visit!
