As far as parodies goes, we are suckers for anything Hobbit or Bilbo-flavored. (OK, I can't speak for the other GeekDads. But I love the genre.) So my hairy feet – and Proudfoots – were tickled all manner of colors when I saw this video The Hobbit: An Unexpected Rap over on the site of our friends at TheOneRing.net.
But attention, parents of little Shirelings and orcs folks! This wee song is not exactly entirely suitable for family consumption. This production from Frog Island contains its share of F- and N-bombs, plus scantily clad women. It's also a very clever satirical video that manages to harpoon rap music and Peter Jackson's Hobbit adaptations, as well as comment on "racial profiling." After all, aren't all hobbits thieves and burglars?
Enjoy this song as we continue to celebrate Hobbit Week. But keep it secret, and safe, from the ears and eyes of the younger geeklings around your hobbit hole. (Which, as we all know, is all the encouragement kids need to watch this themselves.)
