Dual Helmet Smart Camera Project on Kickstarter Focuses on Cycling Safety

Specta Technologies, a Melbourne-based start-up, aims to bring to market the world's first dual video sports camera with WiFi capabilities for cyclists looking for a lightweight and streamlined camera to record their rides for safety purposes.

How much do you ride? Or, how much do you value safety on the roads? Specta Technologies, a Melbourne-based start-up, aims to bring to market the world's first dual video sports camera with WiFi capabilities for cyclists looking for a lightweight and streamlined camera to record their rides for safety purposes.

It is a slick little concept in a world where increasingly cyclists are looking for ways to help monitor their rides and keep themselves safe on busy roads. "The aim is for cyclists to have front and rear-view footage of any accidents and incidents that happen on the road. This is especially important if assaulted or hit by a hit-and-run driver," claims Josiah Ng, founder of Spectacam.

The proposed cam will be lightweight (60gms) and is intended to mount onto a helmet (to be able to get front and rear vision) and will record automatically with the option of a smartphone connection to offer streaming and live views of both cameras. This means there are other possible options including a rear view only function to use this feature as an electronic "rear view mirror." Camera settings can be customized via the Spectacam smart phone app.

Spectacam was conceptualized when 3-time Olympian and Commonwealth 2010 Gold Medalist Josiah Ng first saw the need for a streamlined helmet camera to use on a daily basis. The initial aim of Spectacam was to help record and analyze Ng's training regime in addition to recording his rides for safety purposes. Josiah spent a lot of time training on public roads and often encountered motorists who acted inappropriately or even dangerously towards him and other cyclists. He envisioned having dual cameras to record any potentially negative incidents as well as anything exciting on his rides.__ __

Of course, like all of these wonderful ideas, they need your backing to see the light of day beyond prototype stage. So, you can back this little concept at the usual place.
