Just when I thought I was getting a handle on my addiction, the evil geniuses behind ZooBorns.com have conspired to pull me back in.
The creators of ZooBorns.com promise newer, cuter and more exotic baby animals in their newest book, ZooBorns: The Next Generation. Authors Andrew Bleiman and Chris Eastland deliver on that promise with newborn animals from zoos and aquariums around the world from familiar favorites like pandas and foxes to exotic species like aye-ayes and bongos.
Two years ago, they further enabled my internet habit with a printed book of some of the most ridiculously painfully adorable baby animals ever born within range of a camera. The gallery of images from that book that we published on Wired was one of the most popular in the site's history with more than 2.3 million views of the baby ocelot, red pandas, gorilla, sea otter and other incredibly cute newborn animals. Surely that book spawned thousands of fellow addicts.
Now, as if they knew that I had almost recovered, my cute-crack dealers Andrew Bleiman and Chris Eastland have sent me a free sample of their newest product, ZooBorns: The Next Generation. This book is filled with the kind of cuteness that really should be a controlled substance.
The new edition includes a cheetah cub, a manatee calf, maned wolf pups, a baby bonobo and many other darling creatures you've never even heard of before. Fossa? Vicuna? Numbat? All dangerously adorable. And many of them endangered.
One of the goals of the ZooBorns website and books is to spread the word about the precarious situations many of these species are in and the efforts underway to save them. A portion of the proceeds from the book goes to support conservation work by the Association of Zoos and Aquariums. So you can give the book as a gift and help the animals at the same time. And I have trouble imagining a person who would not like this book.
Enjoy your free sample of cute in this gallery. But don't say I didn't warn you.
