Like many geek parents out there, my first experiences in RPGs were on the NES. Two of those early first-person adventure games, Uninvited and Shadowgate, still hold special places in my heart as some of my favorite gaming memories as a kid. Now Shadowgate is poised to make its return with its original creators at the helm, and they're asking for your support on Kickstarter to get the game completed.

Shadowgate is being developed by Zojoi, and they are quick to point out on their Kickstarter page that the game is not simply a port. (They've ported the game on 10 different platforms over the years.) Dubbed a "re-imagining," the new Shadowgate promises have reworked puzzles, art, and music for players on the PC, Mac, and mobile.

Zojoi has already posted a fascinating update on the sound design for Shadowgate, as well as a campaign to get a new quest in the game, so you can be assured that the team is already hard at work.

Your adventures in the rooms of Castle Shadowgate contain mysteries and dangers as you seek to stop the nefarious Warlock Lord before he unleashes the Behemoth. It sounds simple enough, but I still remember a sense of real accomplishment each time I worked out a puzzle on my own, before the days of GameFAQs and walkthroughs. The Shadowgate Kickstarter effort has already met about half of its goal with less than a month to go. If you've played Shadowgate before, I dare you to listen to the opening music and not glance at the "Back This Project" button immediately.
