Saturday 17, at 2 PM local time (8 AM NYC-time), we test fire our 8 tonnes thrust liquid propellant engine TM65. The event is open for spectators or you can watch the preparation and test live, right here on WIRED, while drinking your morning coffee.
This is the second test of the TM65 engine but this time we will be relying on a pressure blow down system, which basically means that the propellant tanks holds a 20 bar starting pressure, which is used for the entire burn (and tapers off).
The engine still slurps about 15 liters of 75% alcohol, and 15 liters of LOX per second. If we are not forced to shut down the engine we expect a 20-30 second burn.
Nominal time-marks, sat 17 (always prepare for holds and changes - it's spaceflight!):
- Live feed broadcasting start: 1200 CET (6 AM NYC-time).
- Engine fired: 1400 CET (8 AM NYC-time)
As always physicist and space buff Steen Eilers will be providing comments in English during the entire broadcast. The internal radio comm will also be added the feed for you to follow steps and procedures.
