This evening I was trying get a quick overview of the space capsule already produced at Copenhagen Suborbitals and the ones for the future. Even though we have been trying out very different configurations I believe I have my eyes finally fixed on a classic capsule shape with a 1.6 m diameter, beginning with Tycho Deep Space 2, as explained in earlier blog posts.
The basic plan of Tycho Deep Space 2 is to produce a capsule, that has it all!. The performance of the capsule will be evaluated during a flight in space and modified into Tycho Deep Space 3 which will hold one live human being for the final flight. In order to avoid trashing more complex capsules during test flight Tycho Deep Space 2 will have a couple of twins as boilerplates.
Boilerplates are real size capsules made for mimicking the shape and mass only for aerodynamic and buoyancy testing. They rarely hold any systems and can be pushed, kicked, dropped and flown without worries or mental break downs. They are fast and cheap to produce. Also, no system-packed flight model capsules will be flown until Copenhagen Suborbitals masters the art of active guidance.

Pr Madsen and I intent to perform an additional LES test using TDS-2B and a Galcit solid rocket engine. The LES-solid and boilerplate configuration must be proven stable. We aim to perform this test somewhere else than the Baltic Sea. Somewhere with easy logistics and possible spectators.. Stay tuned for more info…</p>
