FlipBooKit: A Maker Faire Favorite on Kickstarter

My favorite discovery from this year's World Maker Faire New York is FlipBooKit, a mechanical flipbook that's coming soon in kit form. With some Kickstarter success, soon we can all be making penny arcade-style hand-crank flipbooks.

I had precious little time at this year's World Maker Faire in New York, but it was just enough time to find some real maker gems. My favorite discovery from this year is FlipBooKit, a mechanical flipbook that's coming soon in kit form. With some Kickstarter success, soon we can all be making penny arcade-style hand-crank flipbooks.

FlipBooKit is the creation of artists Wendy Marvel and Mark Rosen. I share their love of the work of Eadweard Muybridge, and I want my kids to understand the early technologies that led to these so-called "moving pictures" they enjoy today. With their kits, you'll be able to create your own mechanical flipbook. You can transform your own videos into these flipbooks, but I'd also love to get my daughter to draw her own flipbook.

You can fund this now on Kickstarter, as I did, to get an early shot at a FlipBooKit.
