If you are a regular GeekDad reader, you might have a few Lego sets lying around the house... in addition to those of your kids. If receiving a new Lego set is always a good feeling, then consider getting your kids and yourself a unique Lego creation but this time... for charity.
Nannan Zhang and his team at Creations for Charity have set up a very unique program aiming at raising money to buy Lego sets for underprivileged children. The concept is very simple: builders from all over the world design and put together unique creations and donate them to the Creations for Charity store on BrickLink, the one-stop shop for Lego bricks on the Internet. From there, potential buyers can purchase the creations and the money collected from the sales will go straight into buying new sets for less fortunate kids.
This initiative is not new; this team of responsible geeks strikes back every year since 2009, and has increased the donation figures ever since. For this year, there are still 15 days left to donate your Lego creations to the charity and about a month to purchase some impressive pieces on the charity store. Therefore, plenty of ways to contribute, and monetary donations are also accepted in exchange for nice Lego-based goodies.
Don't miss out on this opportunity to do and "build" the right thing and teach a life lesson to your kids, while playing with Lego...
