Canada is a land of mystery. Why does Rogers charge its customers so much? Is there really only one road? And where have all the BlackBerry PlayBooks gone? The last one, at least we think we've solved.

Computerworld noted that the BlackBerry PlayBook is disappearing from online retailers. A quick check of Best Buy, Radio Shack, Staples and Wal-Mart turned up zero PlayBooks available for purchase. While speculation of RIM launching a new tablet have been floated, the reality is bit less exciting according to RIM.

Nick Manning, global corporate communications manager for RIM told Wired via email: "During the back to school season, a number of promotional offers have been in place with select retailers for the BlackBerry PlayBook. These promotions were aimed at increasing adoption of the BlackBerry PlayBook driving sell-through to end customers. These promotions caused many retailers to run out of their current inventory and we are working with select retailers to replenish stock over the coming weeks."

During the recent Q2 earnings call, RIM CFO, Brian Bidulka talked about RIM's improvements to the company's supply chain. One of ways the company is streamlining its supply chain is moving from 10 to three manufacturing sites.

While running out of devices isn't ideal, it beats a warehouse full of unsold tablets.

But don't fret, the PlayBook isn't completely sold out. If you want the BlackBerry tablet it's still available at RIM's own Shop BlackBerry site.
