Dakster Sullivan is still recovering for Star Wars Celebration VI and is now preparing for her son's seventh birthday! He doesn't know it yet, but they will be spending his birthday at Legoland on Saturday and then on to Disney till Monday. Insiders tip...if you can ever make it to Disney on Labor Day, do it. It's one of the most non-busy days of the year.
Nicole Wakelin will be enjoying the last long weekend of summer by attending King Richard's Faire. Costumes will be worn by all.
Rebecca Angel is hastily getting ready for upcoming classes she is teaching with some homeschooling groups in her area in music and storytelling. The summer was full of traveling and did not leave much time for prepping for Fall. She is figuring out her own children's homeschooling curriculum as well, including learning chemistry through cooking. What is the science behind lacto-fermentated beverages? We will find out!
Kelly Knox is ready to be bombarded with game goodness at PAX Prime this weekend! She's looking forward to seeing old friends and meeting new ones. She's also planning to attend a reading and signing by Patrick Rothfuss, author of the Kingkiller Chronicle series. All in all, it's promising to be a geektastic weekend.
Chaos Mandy is off to Dragon*Con this week. She will be having a great time with over 40,000 fellow geeks as well as being on the first GeekMom panel at Dragon*Con, Are You a Geek Parent?
Rachel will spend the upcoming holiday weekend in full-on cleaning mode. Before you cry too much for her, know that she has a little robotic helper coming to stay (and will have a review for you sometime next week).
Melissa Wiley is celebrating a double book launch this week – her middle-grade novel, The Prairie Thief, and her early reader, Inch and Roly Make a Wish, both hit the shelves on Tuesday.
Helene has been busily preparing her two little ones to start preschool in a couple days. She just started reading the last of the published Outlander series, and can already feel the need to find an equally good series.
Laura hosted an art party for a dozen friends. She says they indulged in fascinating conversations while creating masterpieces. Her kids report that it sounded like cackling to them. The artists' favorite drink? Bailey's poured over coffee ice cubes, with a drizzle of chocolate syrup. Laura stuck with wine.
Patricia's community didn't really feel much of Hurricane Issac this past week, but it was remarkable to see the community band together to help each other prepare. She and the family are headed to Dragon*Con this weekend in Atlanta! If you are there, stop by and say HI at the Are You a Geek Parent panel in the Kaleidoscope track room on Friday at 1pm! Also be sure to catch her with the Kaleidoscope group (along with Mandy's family) in the parade on Saturday morning in downtown Atlanta. The parade is free to the public to watch! Patricia does fear that her world will never be the same after having experienced her first con.
Corrina just returned from a 25th wedding anniversary trip to Niagara Falls where she had the best time with her husband. (And without her kids.) The kids have started up school this week, so she's hoping for some of that alone Mommy time mentioned in Brigid's wonderful Mommy Me Time post. In the meantime, she's been ruminating on why sometimes villains are more fun than heroes at the Beyond the Veil blog in which she expresses her love for Michael Fassbender's Magneto...)
