Kenji Kaido, producer of the acclaimed PlayStation games Ico and Shadow of the Colossus, has left Sony, according to his Twitter.

"I have some news," he wrote on Monday. "This August, I left Sony Computer Entertainment. My plans for the future are undecided as of now, but for the time being I'm going to continue my summer vacation."

"Wha... what?" replied Masahiro Sakurai, creator of Super Smash Bros., via Twitter. "Thanks for all of your hard work. I look forward to hearing about your new ventures."

"Thank you very much," Kaido replied. "I'm also excited about whatever I'm going to be doing next."

Before joining Sony, Kaido worked at the game publisher Taito designing arcade games like Cameltry and Sonic Blast Man. He was not said to be involved in the development of the Ico team's current title The Last Guardian.

Still, this marks another high-profile loss for Sony's Japanese game design talent. Late last year, Last Guardian creator Fumito Ueda left Sony; he is finishing the game as a contractor.
