Grab a Scab Mends Tears, But Needs a Better Name

The school season is so close I can smell it. Maybe that's just the smell of blood, because my little guy and his buddies seem to fall on the playground an awful lot. A kiss typically makes it all better, but certainly doesn't do too much for those giant holes in my kid's wardrobe.

The school season is so close I can smell it. Maybe that's just the smell of blood, because my little guy and his buddies seem to fall on the playground an awful lot.

With those injuries come a lot of ripped clothes. Seriously, it's as if our nation's playgrounds are made of rusty nails and broken glass or something. A kiss typically makes it all better, but certainly doesn't do too much for those giant holes in my kid's wardrobe. Now, a company has come up a funky sounding solution known as Grab a Scab.

Scabs make me think of puss and crustables, but these are actually just stick-on patches. No pricks from needles or ironing burns are needed; literally, you just peel the thing and reap the magic of almost-new clothes. Now, I haven't personally tried these out on my son's many rips and tears. However, they do seem perfect for the GeekMom with zero sewing abilities. Each one is also machine-washable, so you won't be re-applying a new Scab every other week.

The name isn't all that appetizing, but the message is nice — or it can be. Starting at $3 each, Grab A Scabs are available in different shapes, sizes and themes and can be used on clothes and backpacks, as well as water bottles, notebooks and more.

If your kids want to sport something friendly, there is the "Anti-Bully Scab" and the "Ellen Scab," which definitely convey that nice message. Plus, for every purchase of the Ellen Scab, Grab a Scab will donate a buck to The Trevor Project.
