Autodesk Lays Off 500

Not long ago, we thought Autodesk was going to take over the world. It bought Instructables, they invested in TechShop, and its CAD software continued to excel.

We thought Autodesk was going to take over the world. It bought Instructables, invested in TechShop, and has enjoyed a virtual monopoly on drafting software with CAD.

It was the grand hope of our Maker future. But then we looked up and its stock was in a free fall..

Has Autodesk bitten off more than it could render? Mashable reports it is trimming 7 percent of its staff -- about 500 jobs -- after falling second-quarter profits. The company, though, maintains the move is a "restructuring" effort, and expects the jobs to bounce back in different form over the next year.
