Three artists put radically different spins Game of Thrones in a new series of posters from Mondo. The limited-edition screen prints include a medieval-flavored earth-tone abstraction by Russian artist Vania Zouravliov, a moody forest vision from Boston-based Daniel Danger and a stylized black-and-white action portrait by Uruguayan artist Martin Ansin.
"We mostly do movies because that's what we're into, in general, but Game of Thrones is so cinematic, it's like you're watching a serialized movie on TV," Mondo director Justin Ishmael told Wired by phone.
The Game of Throne pieces are among more than 15 new posters being released by Mondo, a hot purveyor of fan art from Austin, Texas, during Comic-Con International. New posters, plus archival stuff, will be on display at Mondo's booth (No. 437) on the show floor. The latest batch includes a fast-selling Creature From the Black Lagoon piece by Eisner Award-winning artist Francesco Francavilla. As usual, poster sales will be announced on the@Mondonews Twitter feed.
Ishmael said he and his team deliberately commissioned artists who represented divergent points of view for the Game of Thrones posters. "We didn't want just three drawings of Peter Dinklage," he said. "With Vania, for example, he did one that was more medieval and kind of abstract."
