Augmented music company RjDj has partnered for a second time with Hans Zimmer, this time to release an interactive edition of the soundtrack of The Dark Knight Rises.
[partner id="wireduk"] Like the company's recent Project Now app, the soundtrack -- which is available on iOS only -- takes influences from your surroundings to tweak the music that you listen to. Factors like time of day, weather, location and the volume of the area you're in morph the sound to draw you in.
The movie's dark, bassy, minimalist soundtrack suits this approach well. You can set it into autopilot mode where the music changes depending on input from your smartphone's sensors, or a more exploratory manual mode where you can navigate through the different audio zones and hear Hans Zimmer and Dark Knight Rises director Chris Nolan talk about the soundtrack.
The app is free, but not all of the music from the movie is included by default. The 21 tracks that comprise Zimmer's soundtrack cost £2.49; a "Gotham City By Night" bundle, which plays in the evening, costs £3.99; and £0.69 will get you a sound effect called "The Bat" that changes when you tilt your phone or tablet.
Zimmer said in a statement: "This app allows users to be part of the film in a way that goes beyond the movie screen -- it's the difference between looking at a photo of a river, and being able to drop your hand over the side of the boat and feel the currents of the water tug as the river takes you on a journey."
The app, called The Dark Knight Rises Z+, is available on the App Store now.
