The forthcoming Kirby's Dream Collection: Special Edition for the Wii will include six games along with a new play mode according to a Japanese blog's report of this week's Famitsu magazine.

The bundle is due in Japan on July 19 with a U.S. release this September. In addition to six classic games from the action series, Dream Collection will include ten "challenge stage" mini-games designed to test players' ability to score the most points in the least amount of time, a "Kirby History" compilation of comics and cartoons, a "memorial fanbook" of character art and a soundtrack CD.

The six games to be included are Kirby’s Dream Land (Game Boy, 1992, the very first Kirby game), Kirby’s Adventure (NES, 1993), Kirby’s Dream Land 2 (Game Boy, 1995), Kirby Super Star (SNES, 1996), Kirby’s Dream Land 3 (SNES, 1997), and Kirby 64: The Crystal Shards (Nintendo 64, 2000).

There have been many more games to bear the Kirby name in the past twenty years, but these six titles represent the core of the Pink One's platforming adventures.

As anniversary collections go, this looks like a much better deal than other, similar bundles released on the Wii in recent years. Nintendo's flagship Super Mario series celebrated its 25th birthday in 2010 with a basic port of 1993's Super Mario All-Stars (and not the version that included Super Mario World either). Japan's beloved Dragon Quest series had a 25th anniversary collection of six games on the Wii: the original three games plus the same three games as seen on the Super Famicom.

One caveat to today's news: Nintendo of America has yet to confirm any of the contents of the U.S. edition of the collection. However, since all six included Kirby games already exist in English, it's reasonable to assume that the material won't change significantly between regions.
