Tron: Legacy might have failed to live up to its technopathic promise, but the same may not be true about forthcoming animated series Tron: Uprising, booting up June 7 on Disney XD.
Judging by the hyperreal glow of the recently released sneak-peek video above, Tron: Uprising comes off like a merge of Peter Chung's Aeon Flux and Lucasfilm's Star Wars: The Clone Wars, with a strain of Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex mashed into its matrix. While its sleekly streaked avatars range from 2-D to CGI, they still seem more animated, pardon the pun, than Tron: Legacy's wooden humans.
That might have something to do with the show's stellar cast. Lord of the Rings anchor Elijah Wood stars as Beck, a young program trained by Bruce Boxleitner's Tron to lead an insurrection against The Grid's techno-totalitarian Clu (voiced by Fred Tatasciore) and his henchman General Tesler (voiced by cult favorite Lance Henriksen.
They are joined by talents like Battlestar Galactica's Cylon supermodel Tricia Helfer, Pee-wee Herman's Paul Rubens, Tangled's Mandy Moore and The Daily Show's Nate Corddry. Screen the cool reel above and let us know in the comments section below if Tron: Uprising has energized your interest.
