Verizon doesn't offer HTC's mighty One X, or the speedy One S. But the carrier is still getting a new HTC phone of its own, albeit with a much longer name -- the Droid Incredible 4G LTE.
The new Verizon-exclusive handset, officially announced Monday, kicks off this week's CTIA Wireless convention in New Orleans, and is a follow-up to the original Incredible and the Incredible 2.
The previous incarnations of the Incredible line won high praise from Wired, so we expect much of this latest Droid, which has been the source of rumors for weeks: Verizon actually leaked details of the new handset two weeks ago, nearly all of which were confirmed on Monday.
The new phone will run Google's Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich) operating system, skinned in HTC's Sense 4 user interface. This latest Incredible will also feature a 4-inch super LCD display sporting a 960×540 "qHD" resolution, and just above the touchscreen will sit a front-facing camera for video chat (the camera's resolution wasn't announced).
On the rear of the chassis, the Incredible 4G LTE will feature an 8-megapixel camera with a single LED flash. Inside the smartphone lurks a 1.2GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 dual-core processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of built-in storage. A microSD card slot that can accommodate up to 32GB of extra storage rounds out the story.
So what's it all cost? That's the one detail that still requires confirmation.
In late April's news leak, Verizon's website Droiddoes.com temporarily listed the Incredible 4G LTE as costing $300 on a 2-year Verizon contract. That's an expensive price tag, especially considering the HTC One X, Samsung Galaxy Nexus and Apple iPhone each start at $200 on contract. However, on Monday, the two companies declined to say just how much the handset will sell for when it hits stores in "the coming weeks."
