When a massive asteroid strike ended the 135-million-year-long age of dinosaurs, was it merely sealing the deal on a decline long established? Or were Earth’s reigning reptiles deposed in their evolutionary prime?
Paleontologists Mark Norell and Steve Brusatte of the American Museum of Natural History investigated this question in a recent study of dinosaur body patterns in the late Cretaceous, just before the dinos’ end. Their findings: In a nutshell, it was complicated. (To learn more, read Brian Switek‘s superb writeup.)
At 1 p.m. ET today Wired Science will join Norell and Brusatte for a live chat about their findings and the latest in dinosaur research. You can watch the chat right here, and ask questions by e-mailing comments@amnh.org or tweeting with the hashtag #AMNHlive.
