Custom OS themes provide a great way to test drive a UI without emptying your bank account on new hardware. And now, with a little hacking knowledge and a whole lot of time, you could be running Microsoft's Metro UI on your Android tablet -- this even before Metro lands on an official Windows tablet.
BroBot175 created a custom theme that mimics the previewed-but-not-yet-final Metro Windows 8 interface on Android tablets running either the Honeycomb or Ice Cream Sandwich OS versions. So, if you're suffering from a case of Metro envy, BroBot175's installing the theme could be a fun project that provides the look and feel of Metro without having to wait for Windows 8 tablets, which are expected later this year.
Unfortunately, adding the theme to a Android-powered tablet isn't as simple as downloading an app and setting up your Tiles. The installation requires placing a custom ROM on a rooted tablet. This isn't exactly something you can accomplish during a lunch break, but, if you're comfortable modding your hardware, you might enjoy the implementation, which looks pretty slick, as demoed in the video below.
