Verizon mistakenly published details on its upcoming HTC Droid Incredible 4G LTE smartphone Monday, but the inadvertent leak didn't last long.
After realizing that information about the unreleased phone was live on its website DroidDoes.com, Verizon removed the listing for the new handset. The company has also declined to confirm whether the published details will match what consumers eventually see when the Droid Incredible 4G LTE hits stores.
"The information was removed from our site this morning," Brenda Raney, a Verizon spokeswoman told Wired in an e-mail. "We have nothing to share at this point."
Verizon's listing indicated the phone will feature a 4-inch "Super LCD" touchscreen with a resolution of 960x540, a 1.2GHz processor with 1GB of RAM, and 8GB of storage, according to details reported by SlashGear, among other sites.
Let's hope the information listed online wasn't finalized -- 8GB of storage on a modern smartphone really isn't enough to carry a decent library of photos, video, apps and music, especially for the listed price of $300 on a two-year contract. According to SlashGear, the Incredible 4G LTE will also have a microSD card slot that can handle an extra 32GB of storage, but the microSD card is sold separately.
On the upside, Verizon's listing also noted an 8-megapixel rear-facing camera and VGA front-facing camera. The new handset would also include Beats Audio sound-boosting technology, an HTC mainstay.
On paper, the Droid Icredible 4G LTE looks like it could be a decent phone, though it falls a bit short in terms of processor speed and storage capacity when compared to other top Android handsets, such as the Galaxy Nexus and HTC's own One S and One X.
Let's hope the Droid Incredible 4G LTE is impressive in real life, whenever it sees daylight. Considering how much we liked the original Droid Incredible and the Droid Incredible 2 (seen above), the new model will have some big shoes to fill.
