Three years after the game's release in Japan, Europe and Australia, Nintendo will launch the enhanced Wii port of its GameCube classic Pikmin 2 in North America in June, according to a report.

Pikmin 2, originally released for the GameCube in 2004, remains one of the console's best games. Where the first Pikmin established the series' unique blend of real-time strategy and action-adventure exploration, the sequel solidified the concept, polishing the mechanics and adding bigger, more vibrant areas to explore.

The two games were later ported to the Wii with newer, better controls leveraging the Wiimote, but until now, American gamers were only able to get their hands on the first game's Wii version. The website Nintendo Life said on Tuesday that the information appears in the latest issue of Nintendo Power magazine.

Cynics will say that Nintendo is just digging through the Wii library in order to have something, anything, on shelves for the Wii's dying moments. It's also building brand awareness in preparation for Pikmin 3's unveiling at E3 2012.
