Many of you may remember that there was a huge outcry over the Lego Friends sets that were geared towards girls. It wasn't just the sets that upset many parents but the way that Lego was marketing to girls. But now, Lego has started to work on breaking those gender stereotypes with the help of SPARK.
SPARK is an organization that advocates women's rights and is working on ending the sexualization of women as shown in the media. They are also behind the petition asking Lego to stop selling out girls. While we here at GeekMom aren't a fan of gender stereotypes, many of us didn't have an issue with the new Friends line.
But Lego is apparently taking the concerns of parents very seriously. They are working with SPARK activists, including the authors of the petition - Bailey Shoemaker Richards and Stephanie Cole. This is to help introduce more females into Lego sets as well as working on advertising strategies that will market Lego sets to both genders equally.
I'm glad that Lego seems to be taking the concerns of parents seriously as well as working on breaking gender stereotypes in their toys. You can read more about this story at bust.com.
