We discuss the ups and downs of gaming Kickstarters on this week’s Game|Life podcast.
Games like Double Fine Adventure and Wasteland 2 have kicked ass on Kickstarter, raising millions of dollars each through the unique crowdfunding tool. Others, like the revival of Leisure Suit Larry , have made a more modest amount of money. But some worthy-seeming projects like Republique , a game from former Metal Gear Solid and Halo 4 producer Ryan Payton, have had serious trouble getting started.
Why? It’s tough to know, in these early days, what makes a Kickstarter successful. But Wired senior editor Peter Rubin, Wired managing editor Marty Cortinas and I are willing to spitball some ideas. (Chris Baker observes Kirby’s birthday as a holiday, and so is absent this week.)
Additionally, I talk about my time playing the excellent parody of slash homage to 8-bit RPGs that is Breath of Death VII and Peter gives his take on Trials Evolution . And probably more that I’m forgetting.
Game|Life’s podcast is posted on Fridays. It is available on iTunes, can be downloaded directly and is embedded below.
